Starting Fresh

“Sometimes you have to burn yourself to the ground
before you can rise like a phoenix from the ashes.”
-Jens Lekman

No one is exempt from occasionally feeling dissatisfied, unfulfilled, or like major life changes are needed.

Whether you’ve gone through a life-altering shake-up (like a financial disaster/break-up/death/health issue/career disappointment), or you simply know you needed to change your approach, starting over is never easy…even if you know that there’s a good chance it will change your life for the better.

The good news is that a fresh start is always available to us – in any area of our lives, and can be exactly what we need (whether it comes as a result of a subtle hint, or a part of your life figuratively/literally burns down).

For me, it was moving on and re-inventing myself after divorce, figuring out how to cope through my dad’s 18 year battle with Alzheimer’s disease (and later his death), and on a less dire level, choosing to leave corporate America, pivoting through the ups & down of entrepreneurship, and making lifestyle changes like cutting out meat, re-inventing the way I use social media, and being a more giving/transparent friend.

While all of these new beginnings came with both challenges and a learning curve, they have collectively led me to become who I am today.  So for that, I’m grateful for having had the courage to start fresh, and look forward to more opportunities as they appear….like the ClassPass membership I just signed up for!

What elements of your life could use an over-haul?

Right now is as good of a time as any to make the changes you know you need to make (even if it means starting from scratch), so if you have been waiting for a sign, consider this your permission to go for it!

Want to hear an inspiring story of re-invention?  Tune in to episode 223 of People Being Real.  My good friend Taylor Conroy is back on the show to share his ‘phoenix’ story – going from successful entrepreneur and impactful humanitarian, to bankruptcy, and back again. Taylor is super candid, real, and light-hearted, and it was a lot of fun having him back on the show – and also sharing what it was like being housemates, how we give each-other honest feedback, and some hot tips on delicious chocolate.

Wishing you an incredible week full of new beginnings!
